James Mattiazzo has dedicated the past 10 years of his life to serving the less fortunate and marginalized in Niagara and other communities across Ontario.
Even before graduating college James was already working on developing programs for Autism Ontario and the Canadian Mental Health association, as well as counselling homeless youth.
James is a trained and certified program writer and facilitator through the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), John Howard Society, and Brock University. He specialized in integrating art and social skills programming for individuals with developmental disabilities and has facilitated programs in universities across Ontario.
After working at the Boy’s and Girl’s club’s Nightlight Youth Shelter, James spent the next 8 years as a caseworker with the Salvation Army Booth Center before moving on to Start Me Up Niagara to take on a regional program working closely with Niagara’s hardest to serve homeless.
Aside from serving the community as a profession, in 2015 James created a charity called I Am Human. Using his experience as an artist, DJ and event coordinator the main focus of this charity is to raise money through arts and music to be donated to or used to help community focused organizations.
James is also a DJ and has been performing at and organizing events since the year 2000. The past few years have been great musically as he has had the opportunity to perform at the Niagara Music Awards, The Mayor’s Au Berg, Niagara Marathon, Welland’s Floatfest, as well as countless charity events. James is really looking forward to adding a spotlight on inclusivity and electronic music to the Niagara Arts showcase.
Marinko Jareb is a multidisciplinary artist, DJ and father of two from the Niagara Region. He has shown his work and performed internationally and his art belongs in public and private collections around the globe. While signed to Mono Records of Helsinki, Finland, his music took him on a whirlwind tour of underground nightclubs and raves all over Europe, brushing elbows with contemporary artists along the way. As a member of The Vinyl Interventions Trio (with Esther Bourdage of Montreal and Carrie Gates of Saskatoon), Marinko experimented and pushed the boundaries of DJ culture. Marinko’s “low tech gets high” style has been described as “electric folk art” and as an “intersection of street culture, the dance floor and the gallery walls”. Marinko’s work has been featured in Musicworks Magazine, on the cover of FUSE Magazine, in the book Toronto Graffiti and in many group and solo exhibits in Canada and abroad.
Currently, Marinko is the curator of ECHO, a series of outdoor music events at Rodman Hall Art Centre and he works on art every day of his life.
