Born and raised in Toronto, James began his career as a commercial artist. As with most commercial artists, Jim was a frustrated fine artist and twenty-five years ago began painting and drawing.
The Niagara Peninsula has been a wonderful resource for one of the avenues that his fine art has taken him. His historical ink drawings are widely known thorough out Ontario. Our rich Canadian heritage has inspired his turn of the (last) century drawings and they have become collectable worldwide.
Jim’s passion is painting the world around us, with his watercolours and acrylics. His traditional approach demonstrates his mastery of the medium. His paintings are highly sought after and many of his works are held in private and corporate collections, most notably the inclusion of two commissions in the Petro-Canada Centre collection in Calgary, Alberta. In 2013, Jim was inducted into the Niagara Falls Art and Culture Wall of Fame!
Above all he enjoys sharing his knowledge with others. Jim has demonstrated and conducted workshops for years. His classes are both informative and fun!
Jim’s work has been exhibited throughout Ontario in many group and solo shows. He is a life member of the Parkway Artists Guild, sat on the organization committee for the Pelham Art Festival and was Founder of Art By The Lighthouse, now known as Art at the Pumphouse, an art show and sale, held at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre in NOTL. Currently, Jim is working with seniors in Senior and Nursing Homes. Seniors teaching seniors is a pilot programme teaching painting to seniors.
